Travel Link-Up: 5 of the Best Meals (& Dishes) Ever!

Are you one of those people who plan their itineraries around food? I am. In fact, when visiting a country/city/town, I always research and plan the restaurants/meals first before going on tourist attractions. So it goes without saying, this month’s travel link-up topic is possibly my favourite to date because hello… I am one hungry person. However, it’s also been the most difficult to write because I’ve had to dig deep into the countless memories and meals I’ve had.

I’ve managed to narrow it down to 5:

Long Beach Seafood :: Dempsey Hill, Singapore
Singapore will always be dear to my heart. I have a list of Singapore recommendations and this restaurant will always, always, always be included. If you’re a seafood fan like I am then this place is spot on: lobster from the lochs of Scotland, crabs from Australia, Sri-Lanka and Alaska, oysters from Canada, etc. If you ever go, please do not miss out on the white pepper crab. To this date, it’s still my favourite crab dish ever. Some friends introduced me to this restaurant when I was visiting and it was such a fun meal.

Beachfront lunch :: Palawan, Philippines
This meal was very simple but it was very memorable because of the setting and the company. After a day of swimming with jackfish, snorkelling and checking out secret beaches, we were sent to another island for lunch. We ate overlooking the emerald ocean as we talked about life, love, and other things. We were people of different ages, backgrounds and parts of the world but it felt like we’ve known each other for yonks. It was also where I fell in love with that awesome banana bread which I still think about from time to time.

Trussardi alla Scala :: Milan, Italy
Located atop the Trussardi boutique next to the world famous Teatro alla Scala, this Michelin-starred gem is as chic as the city. Everything was beautiful and beautifully presented: from the decor to the servers to the punters. My mind still goes back to that very simple pasta secondo, made with ‘shrooms and pesto. My companion and I both loved it and thought it was insanely gorgeous for a simple dish. After a decent stroll all over the city, I think this meal was a very nice reward.

Restaurant Le Francais at La Mamounia :: Marrakech, Morocco
My last visit to Morocco was so good. I really enjoyed staying at La Mamounia and loved dinner at Restaurant Le Francais. It was truly elegant and the ambience was very warm. I still remember getting wowed by the white asparagus starter I had, which is possibly the best starter I’ve had in a while. And if you’ve not sampled local Moroccan rosé, please do. It’s a hard competitor for Provençal rosé.

Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester :: London, UK
Hands down, this is possibly the best meal I’ve had in London. With an offering of impeccable service (minus any pretentious labels) and absolutely divine food, it’s definitely worthy of all three Michelin stars. I’ll write more about this dining experience soon… once I’ve gotten over salivating the beautiful dishes I’ve had.

Hope your feet take you somewhere that makes your hearts and bellies full. x
